Introduction and objectives. The analysis of frequency variability during ventricular fibrillation has yielded inconsistent results. We used an experimental model of ventricular fibrillation, with a short timescale, to analyze variations in frequency and their associated spatial distribution. Methods. Epicardial recordings of ventricular fibrillation were made in 10 perfused isolated rabbit heart preparations using a multiple electrode system (i.e., 240 unipolar electrodes). Both spectral and time-frequency analysis were used to derive the dominant frequency in the anterolateral wall of the left ventricle. Results. Operators on Partial Inner Product Spaces: Towards a Spectral Analysis

Given a LHS (Lattice of Hilbert spaces) $V_J$ and a symmetric operator $A$ in $V_J$, in the sense of partial inner product spaces, we define a generalized resolvent for $A$ and study the corresponding spectral properties. In particular, we examine, with help of the KLMN theorem, the question of generalized eigenvalues associated to points of the continuous (Hilbertian) spectrum. We give some examples, including so-called frame multipliers.

The ancient theatre at Syracuse, the largest open air theatre in Sicily, experienced many structural changes along its history. Today its very renowned drama festival attracts visitors from all the world that fill the entire cavea: customized seats accomodation and a prominent stage play an important role in the theatre acoustics. Because no data were available in literature on its acoustical perfomance a measurement session was carried out by our team in the framework of a wide research project on ancient theatres acoustics in the modern use. While the standard network description of complex systems is based on quantifying the link between pairs of system units, higher-order interactions (HOIs) involving three or more units often play a major role in governing the collective network behavior. This work introduces a new approach to quantify pairwise and HOIs for multivariate rhythmic processes interacting across multiple time scales. We define the so-called O-information rate (OIR) as a new metric to assess HOIs for multivariate time series, and present a framework to decompose the OIR into measures quantifying Granger-causal and instantaneous influences, as well as to expand all measures in the frequency domain. The objective of this paper is to analyse water level variations of the Baltic Sea on the Latvian coast. This is important because the Baltic Sea exhibits a number of remarkable phenomena. One of them is the sea level variations due to winds, complicated by the shape of the gulfs and islands. The complete analysis of the 1H NMR spectrum of β-pinene, (1S)-(-)-6,6-dimethyl-2-methylenebicyclo[3.1.1]heptane, which is of the ABCDEFGHIJX3Y3 type, is reported and earlier results are corrected. The vicinal coupling constants, 3J(H,H), are compared with the theoretical values calculated by using the Altona and co-workers’ equations for the structure derived by molecular modelling. The results were applied to the conformational analysis of β-pinene. © 1997 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
Effects of Pulsed High-Frequency Electromagnetic Fields on Human Sleep

In the present study we investigated the influence of pulsed high-frequency electromagnetic fields of digital mobile radio telephones on sleep in healthy humans. Besides a hypnotic effect with shortening of sleep onset latency, a REM suppressive effect with reduction of duration and percentage of REM sleep was found. Moreover, spectral analysis revealed qualitative alterations of the EEG signal during REM sleep with an increased spectral power density. Swift observations of GRB 060614: an anomalous burst with a well behaved afterglow

GRB 060614 is a remarkable GRB observed by Swift with puzzling properties, which challenge current progenitor models. The lack of any bright SN down to very strict limits and the vanishing spectral lags are typical of short GRBs, strikingly at odds with the long (102s) duration of this event. Here we present spectral and temporal analysis of the Swift observations. We show that the burst presents standard optical, UV and X-ray afterglows. An achromatic break is observed simultaneously in optical and X-rays, at a time consistent with the break in the R-band light curve measured by the VLT. Is the V˙o 2 slow component dependent on progressive recruitment of fast-twitch fibers in trained runners?

The goal of this study was to use spectral analysis of EMG data to test the hypothesis that the O2 uptake (V˙o 2) slow component is due to a recruitment of fast fibers. Thirteen runners carried out a treadmill test with a constant speed, corresponding to 95% of the velocity associated with maximal V˙o 2. TheV˙o 2 response was fit with the classical model including three exponential functions. Electrical activity of six lower limb muscles (vastus lateralis, soleus, and gastrocnemius of both sides) was measured using electromyogram surface electrodes.
